Sometimes, parts of your wedding (or elopement) have to be chosen on-the-fly, and that’s exactly how Colleen and Déna ended up with their beautiful wedding in Prospect Park.
If you’re looking for the perfect Brooklyn wedding location for you and your love to tie the knot, look no further – this stunning Brooklyn wedding will give you all the inspiration you need for your own Brooklyn wedding or elopement.

A Last-Minute Prospect Park Wedding:
Colleen and Déna had been planning their Brooklyn elopement for months. They wanted it to be super laid-back, intimate, and casual. They knew it would be special no matter what, because they were spending it together, so they didn’t need extra details and extra fluff to make it so.
They initially had a location in Brooklyn in mind, but when we got there, the lighting wasn’t ideal for their ceremony. So, last-minute, we wandered into Prospect Park and found this absolutely perfect location in between the trees, and they decided on a whim to get married there instead.

This unforgettable last-minute wedding location switch was one of my favorite parts of the day. As a New York City wedding and elopement photographer, I love to work with laid-back couples who know their weddings are going to be special, no matter what happens. Spending this moment with Colleen and Déna was so fun and led to the most stunning photos for their elopement.

Prospect Park quickly became one of my favorite wedding locations in Brooklyn after Colleen and Déna’s big day. Everything about it – from the serene waterfront location to the way the light hits – makes it one of the best elopement locations you can find around. Plus, the photos here look stunning on film. Everything about a Prospect Park wedding screams serenity and peace, perfect for any couple looking for a calm and laid-back day.

The Best Photo Locations for a Prospect Park Wedding:
Of course, no Brooklyn elopement is complete without a photoshoot afterwards. Colleen, Déna, and I first made our way through the rest of the park to see what other beautiful spots Prospect Park had to offer, and we were NOT disappointed.

- The Nature
First, we found a spot that had some gorgeous blooming trees that created a stunning background. I knew we had to get some couple photos here before continuing to wander. It was the perfect backdrop to match the couple’s elopement outfits and details.

Speaking of details, let’s dive into Colleen’s bridal style. Her high-neck elopement dress from Revolve was the perfect touch of sleek and simple for the couple’s laid-back wedding day, and her matching headband tied it all together with a vintage feel. Everything, from her headband to her Sam Edelman bridal shoes, fit her vibe (and the vibe of her wedding day) so well. She also made her own bouquet, adding that handmade touch to the elopement.

After getting these couple and bridal shots, we kept trekking through the park to find the best spots for photos (which wasn’t hard to do, considering we were in Prospect Park). Some of the best photos came from just this, which is why I love documentary-style photography for days like this.
Prospect Park Photo Tip:
The park changes with the seasons—spring blooms, summer greens, fall foliage, and even snow-dusted winter scenes—so plan your outfits and timing based on the overall look and vibe you want in your photos. Early morning or golden hour (an hour before sunset) is best for soft, flattering light.

- The Bridge:
Next to add to your list of photo locations for your Prospect Park wedding: the bridge. These photos were so dreamy and romantic, with the architecture of the bridge towering over Colleen and Déna.
Bonus Tip:
The Lullwater Bridge (a.k.a. the “Rustic Bridge”) is a favorite among photographers. It’s surrounded by trees, water, and has a uniquely charming structure that makes every photo feel extra romantic.

- The Boathouse:
If you only take one piece of advice from me for your Prospect Park wedding, take the photos at the boathouse. While it’s true that this is one of the most popular places in the park, navigating it to get photos here will be so worth it. These photos from Colleen and Déna’s wedding will be forever cherished – and you’ll see why when you see them.
We used this location for more bride and groom photos as well as family photos, because it just had so much to offer. The gorgeous architecture made for so many stunning backdrops, so we just couldn’t stop taking photo after photo here.
Bonus Tip:
If you want to get married at the Boathouse (not just take photos), know that it’s one of the most iconic wedding venues in Brooklyn. It books out far in advance and has full venue rentals available through the Prospect Park Alliance and their private event partners.

Prospect Park offers full wedding services as well, for ceremonies to take place at either the Boathouse or the Picnic House. Both are historic, romantic, and scenic venues, and you couldn’t go wrong with either. For more tips on how to plan your Prospect Park wedding, click here to visit their website.
I hope Colleen and Déna’s wedding story helped you plan your Prospect Park wedding or gave you some peace of mind that even if everything doesn’t go exactly to plan on a wedding day, the results can still be incredible.

”I could go on and ON and ONNN with how incredible Sidney is. Not only is she so talented behind the camera, but she makes you feel so comfortable and offers suggestions and ways to capture beautiful moments. We used Sidney for my fiancé and my elopement in Prospect Park, in Brooklyn and the photos are MAGICAL. Truly could not have been happier with how they turned out. Sidney, you have a special gift and I will scream it from the rooftops for whoever will listen :)” – Colleen
